Print a seven-piece tangram set with a square, boat or bird challenge. Keep the pieces and silhouette at the same physical scale, add optional piece numbers and export a separate arrangement key.

The classic set contains two large right triangles, one medium right triangle, two small right triangles, one square and one parallelogram. Each challenge uses all seven shapes. The task is to cover the silhouette without gaps or overlaps; pieces can rotate, and the parallelogram may need to be turned over.
💡A few useful answers
Why does the bird look larger than the square?
The same seven pieces are spread into a wider arrangement. Their sizes have not changed. The selected measurement remains the side of the original square, so the outer width of the bird can be greater while the total piece area stays the same.
Can I print another challenge for an existing set?
Yes. Choose challenge-only output and use exactly the same square-side measurement and printer scale as the pieces. Include the key if you need it for preparation, then keep that page out of sight during the puzzle.
Are the paper pieces physically tested?
The coordinates, areas and placements are checked geometrically. Real cutting and printer scaling still affect the paper result. Make one plain-paper trial and check the ruler before preparing thicker stock or multiple classroom sets.
Keep every tangram piece at one scale
✏️The size setting describes the side of the original assembled square: 60, 80 or 100 millimetres. It does not describe the width of every finished silhouette. A bird spreads wider than the square, while the boat has a different bounding shape. The generator applies one common scale to all seven pieces and to every challenge, preserving the geometry needed to reuse a cut set.
If a chosen silhouette does not fit the available paper area, reduce the square size or select larger paper. The editor rejects an oversized arrangement rather than shrinking only the challenge. Print matching components at Actual size and check the 50 mm ruler before cutting. For a separate three-dimensional construction activity, the geometric solid nets offer measured faces and fold guides.
Choose pieces, challenges or a complete kit
The complete kit includes a square cut sheet, the selected filled silhouette and, when enabled, an answer arrangement. Pieces-only output is useful when replacing a lost set. Challenge-only output makes another task for pieces you already own. Keep the same size setting between those jobs. A title identifies a group or session without changing the dimensions of the shapes.
Piece numbers appear on the cut sheet and the key when selected; they do not reveal boundaries inside the challenge silhouette. Colored artwork can help distinguish the pieces during an explanation, while an outline set leaves room for personal decoration. Cutting accuracy still matters. Use cutting practice sheets first if following a straight boundary is itself part of the activity.
Use the silhouette as a spatial puzzle
📝Before presenting the whole silhouette, let a learner compare the triangles and discover which smaller pieces can occupy the same area as a larger one. Ask them to rotate a piece before deciding that it does not fit. The parallelogram has a handedness that the other shapes do not: turning it over is allowed in these challenges, so both faces of the cut paper are usable.
The arrangement key shows one verified placement of the seven pieces. It is a way to inspect the intended construction, not a claim that every silhouette has only one possible arrangement. The supplied placements have no overlapping interiors and form a connected outer shape. Compare this task with mirror-image drawing when discussing reflection versus rotation, keeping the two rules distinct.

An 80 mm square kit
Choose the complete kit, square silhouette, 80 mm size, piece numbers and answers. You receive three pages: pieces, challenge and arrangement key. The original square on the cut sheet measures 80 mm per side at actual-size printing.
Choose challenge-only output, boat, 60 mm and answers. The two pages contain the filled target and its seven-piece arrangement. Use a previously cut 60 mm set; do not substitute pieces made with the 80 mm setting.
